Death Race 2050 is an American political satire action film released in 2017 and starring Manu Bennett, Marci Miller, and Malcolm McDowell. The film was directed by G.J. It is a continuation of the 1975 movie Death Race 2000. Roger Corman, who produced both films, characterized the latter as "a car-racing film with a dark sense of humor."

Death Race 2050's plot?

The year 2050 has arrived. In the United Corporations of America, which suffers from an unemployment rate of 99.993 percent and an excessive population, the Death Race serves the dual purpose of providing entertainment and regulating the population. The current iteration of the Death Race takes competitors from Old New York to New Los Angeles, and the defending champion is Frankenstein. In this competition, Frankenstein faces up against a genetically engineered athlete named Jed Perfectus, a hip-hop star named Minerva Jefferson, a female cultist named Tammy the Terrorist, and an evil, black, artificially intelligent, self-driving automobile named ABE. Each participant in the race is given a proxy, who is a broadcaster who provides the viewers with a virtual reality experience of the competition. Annie Sullivan, who acts as Frankenstein's surrogate, quickly puts him off, and he dismisses both her efforts to interview him and her recommendations that he should let his opponents pass him by.

As the drivers race along the East Coast, Alexis Hamilton's rebels install traps. Tammy and Minerva compete over cult members to murder. ABE malfunctions, kills its proxy, and abandons the race to find its purpose. First, Hamilton instructs her spy Annie to assassinate Frankenstein. She fails to seduce him since he just worries about winning. The Chairman says Frankenstein's longevity is a problem, but Perfectus will urge his devotees to die.

On Day two of the race, the drivers go through the country's heartland, which is notorious for its gun-toting people. Tammy sends a suicide bomber to murder Minerva's proxy, Chi Wapp. On another road, Frankenstein takes a shortcut, but his automobile becomes stuck in a cornfield. While Annie is away, Frankenstein fights a gang of Resistance ninjas in order to collect extra points. Annie confesses to being a rebel and tries to recruit Frankenstein at the second checkpoint. Frankenstein, who is apolitical, insults both the rebels and the government, repeating his goal to win the race. Minerva explains to Annie at a bar that she is an educated academic who survives by playing a clichéd hip-hop persona. When Annie returns to Frankenstein's chamber, she protects him from Perfectus, who is envious of Frankenstein's fame and sexual attraction. Meanwhile, Hamilton and the Chairman are revealed to be working together behind the scenes.

To keep the Resistance at bay, the government sets up "authorized" routes on Day 3. An injury to Perfectus' right arm forces Frankenstein to change gears with the help of Annie. Tammy's proxy, Minerva, chases after her but jumps off a cliff to avoid her. Minerva's death is a source of pride for Tammy, but a return of the ABE destroys them both. They kill Hamilton's rebels with the help of Frankenstein, Annie, and Perfectus. The car driven by Perfectus goes off the road and crashes into the VR booth. In Frankenstein's estimation, the Chairman is worth a total of 1,000 points before the race even begins. A Death Race is organized for onlookers to participate in after Frankenstein murders the Chairman. As the country spirals into chaos, Frankenstein and Annie advise repopulating it.

How was Death Race 2050 created?

An Italian journalist who was interviewing Corman noted that The Hunger Games had parallels to Death Race 2000, which sparked the idea for a follow-up picture. To bring back the dark humor of his original, Corman approached Universal Pictures, the studio behind the current remake (which he believed omitted far too much of the original's political criticism). Corman told them, "You did a terrific job, but you've taken away the murdering of pedestrians and the broken-society themes."

Corman started filming in his late 80s, during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. It stars an entrepreneur who is now the Chairman of the United Corporations of America. "The president does have a hair style that may be approaching Trump's hair style," Corman told an interviewer, "but I don't want to go too deep into that, since Trump will come and go and the picture will stay."

People seemed to like watching Death Race 2050, didn't they?

"There are a number of Death Races in a movie series about the Death Race coming to an end. After Jason Statham's Death Race trilogy in the late 2000s and early 2010s, Roger Corman returns to direct Death Race 2050. (Death Race 2050) While both films were enjoyable in their own right, they bore little resemblance to the original 1970s B-movie Death Race 2000. So Corman gets this out-of-control burning disaster back on track by organizing a three-day race across a dystopian America, where pedestrian killings earn points for over-the-top personalities! But this time, the title includes a 50." - Decker Shado

The movie was made available in the United States on DVD and as part of a combination DVD/Blu-ray release that included included three behind-the-scenes documentaries: The Making of 2050, The Look of 2050, and Cars! Oh my my, the cars! On March 20, 2017, it was made available to the public in the United Kingdom.

As of June 2020, eight reviews of the movie with an average score of 6.8/10 gave it an 88 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

On ComingSoon, Chris Alexander described the picture as "loud, strident," "spastic," "mad," "stylish" and at times both "dumb and brilliant" in equal measure. Scott Weinberg, writing for Nerdist, described the movie as "all extremely awkward and rickety and kitschy, but that's just part of the'shaggy dog' appeal of the production." In addition, a website's Zavala said that "it's got enough blood, guts, simple political commentary, scenery chewing and bad special effects for it to become a cult classic."
